I Love My Steel Door

Call me a relic, call me what you will.

Say I'm old-fashioned, say I'm over the hill.

But I love the steel fuel door on my new '16.

First plastic door was on my wife's Volvo. Lasted about 2 months.

Dealer just laughed when I took it in for repair. He saw so many broken fuel doors, he bought replacement doors by the case.

Don't care about saving weight. Can it really matter that much on a 6500 lbs. truck?

I love my steel fuel door.

I agree that Ford should have been a little more picky with fuel door quality. A steel door on an aluminum body would probably create some pretty bad issues in the way of dissimilar metals touching, but an aluminum door would make sense. If nothing else, they should at least improve the hinge quality to prevent doors failing.

I think my parents' '11 Raptors have plastic doors, while my '88 F150 has the steel door. Only thing I don't like about the steel door is how loud it is when I shut it after filling up; I swear people turn around to glare at me after they hear the echo... The plastic doors are nice and quiet. Maybe the newer steel doors are quieter...

At first, it seemed like you were going into a limerick there. Heck, you even ended the post like a poem!

70k truck and a plastic fuel door it will give those guys with the '17's another thing to complain about.

I'll keep the 50k '16' and a steel fuel door.

Already has.

Ditto my $40k '16.

But, I will move on some day. And the next truck will probably be plastic.

But for now, I'm a Pittsburg fan.

I love my steel fuel door too. Especially when I open it and see a big plug where the DEF filler neck would be.
