Hi folks

***prehistory*** This is my second post. First one wasn't answered in a way that was purely solvable in relation to time vs money / anger and arson charges. (joke...) so I gave up.

I don't know where to really place this atm. So I shall throw it here and see if it's good.***end of prehistory***

****Truck details and current issues****My pickup is a 4.2l 99 150 decided to start, run, warm up, die. (death seems to be lack of one of the three vital things needed to burn. Air/ignition/fuel)

Since it starts and runs till warm it's getting air.(at least for 15m)
since it runs at start it's getting spark (at least for 15m)
Since it runs at start its getting fuel for 15m

After 15 minutes it chokes.

Three things from the basic fundamentals of combustion.
Air/fuel/spark.
I smell fuel at choke. (fuel isn't the issue)
Removed air filter still chokes
I have not checked spark at choke. (theory next) but doubtful.
That would mean electrical issues either at coil pack (when warm a speration happens to a board or bad coil pack) can still check at warm just its cold as a ex-wife out.

If all above prove true (working which I Think are ) exhaust will be next and most probable. Clogged converters.

My idea is to use non contact gauge to determine heat. At cold, at warm and last at choke.***end current issue***

If that's the issue... (don't be mad) it won't be worth it to comply with state law and buy nys compliant parts. (pa is 1/5 price)

I will then decide to swap out a 5.0l truck engine or go big and make it a 351. Here's where I run into issues. Inspections require odb2. So either I find an entire setup. (not worth time) or I find software to replace all the computers/modules/sensors with alternative systems. A raspberry pi comes to mind. Issue is getting the programming software. 😐. How do I clone or find the software to install to monitor the sensors and adjustments. A few uno's and a few pi's can replace the entire cars computer system.
trying to find this is like trying to find a atlantis. So I may have to buy a computer to play with from a yard to tamper with. Oh joy. I am glad this is a truck just haul my bike.

***So here's the question: is there a place I can find the trucks/cars program besides the computer? Dealer have it? I'm willing to bribe.***

Considering a larger engine, even if I have to go back and use a pre computer model but then I have to make it custom. (which is truck ****), meaning frame off rebuild. Using the frame, suspension, and steering parts I can make the skin, skin frame, roll cage, even use any part I wish. It's my design.

Now what to do with the 4.2l stick?
The a bulb hit me. 6 cylinder trike!

hope color coding this made it easier to read and understand and not make it boring!

Have you tried pulling the codes? Code readers are becoming cheaper and cheaper, and if you are less than 15 minutes away from a parts store they will read them for free.

When the engine is cold the computer system is running in "open loop". That means it is not monitoring the oxygen sensor, it is fueling the engine from the look-up tables in the computer memory. As soon as the computer thinks the engine has warmed up enough, and likewise the oxygen sensor has warmed up enough, it looks to the oxygen sensor for fueling information. It would seem to me this is the time that it stalls out also.

I would read the codes and see what you have.
