If using propane start from way back and wave the torch back and forth to prevent overcooking it. Slowly move in on your target and when you get to the point where it starts to shrink up hold there, still waving the torch side to side and take it easy. Of course you want to be wary of any surrounding parts that are in the area and don't cook them. You can use aluminum flashing or old license plates as a heat shield to protect the other stuff.

OK, Ill practice a bit before I go melting the engine bay. I like the license plate idea. . .
Will I need to get 2 sizes of parallel connectors or will the 10-12 cover all of them?
Just need to order the connectors on eBay and wait for some nicer weather and I can knock out the valve covers, replace some VC bolts and glow plugs!

The 10-12 is easier to use and will do them all, but it needs more effort to insulate with shrink tubing. I showed in the picture that I put a stretch of 1/8" shrink tubing over the insulation to build up the diameter, then 1/4" tubing fits over the whole wire and crimp.
