My 2015 XLT with the SYNC My Touch and navigation system has an annoying problem. When I try to type in a destination, most or all of the font is grayed out so you can't type in the whole address. Either that or while you are typing the system out fills some bogus address. I had the help desk on the phone and we reset the whole system, but that didn't fix the problem. Mine has the latest (A7) SD card, but if I recall, this was happening before I installed the new card. So now I have an appointment to have the dealership check it out. Apparently, they have to remove a lot of the dash to replace the NAV system. I have 1000 miles left on my warrantee, so I hope they can fix it preferably without major disassembly. Anybody out there have similar problems? Thanks.
I never had those problems. Disassembly & reassembly of the dash to get at the Navigation system looks worse than it is. Most of the dash panels just pull off, there are very few fasteners holding them on. I would not be concerned. I would be happy if my dealer was taking care of me. Good Luck, keep us posted.
That isn't a problem with your unit, it is a problem with the horrible design of the system. They tried to make it smart and anticipate what you want to type in. But it takes many more keystrokes than any other GPS I have used. And there is no way to update it with new streets without spending $200 for a software update, which is probably out of date itself. That Sync system cost around $5,000. My Garmin was ~$300 and it comes with lifetime updates. The single biggest complaint about Fords has been that Sync system.
If they're going to call it Sync, it should sync with your phone and allow access to your apps. Press Google Maps or any other app and be done. Now that would be cheap, easy, and well received. Every OEM trying to design their own system isn't working well.
Sync 3 allows your productivity screen to run apps on your phone. Ford even opened up the interface for map updates. Today the list of supported apps is small. I hope the list grows in the near future. Unfortunately no map apps work with Sync 3 yet.
Went to the dealer today, and as it turns out, the system is working normal. WhiteEx is right though, about the system design. To me it's annoying, but I figured out that I have to be more careful about keying in the address. Also figured out that i can can voice commands to set up the NAV destination. One thing, I know the system didn't run up the cost of the truck by $5k. Thanks for all the good feedback, probably be helpful to some others.
