Recently I took delivery on a 17 F250 CC, 6.2 gas burner. After about 1500 or so miles I noticed that there is a lot more play in the steering that I have been accustomed to in my previous trucks at highway speeds. I am wondering if is a norm with the truck or an adjustment that can be made or maybe the tires. The tires are the 275x 70x 18 Goodyears.when I move the wheel, it travels about a good inch until I get much of a reaction.

Reason: Correction
I would bring it to dealer and insist on getting it righted. If you added a lift kit or did some modifications I could see this happening but not driving off the line.
My 17 is at the dealer right now, excessive play in the Steering Wheel to the point I feel like I'm driving a chunk Wagon. Ford Dealer #1 blames it on my aftermarket shocks (stock tires and height) Lets hope Ford Dealer #2 hooks me up

You should never darken the doorstep of Dealer #1 again.

Is this a 2wd truck? If so that's just the crappy I beam front end Ford uses.
My play in my 17 Platinum 4x4 is getting progressively worse. Ford say it is the nature of the truck, I still think something is a wrong. They say they checked the track bar etc.
A friend of mine told me that its not lose, its a different gear ratio in the steering box. I am waiting for the first service for the dealer to look at it.
Bassboatman....I've been following your issue and I know you mentioned it started when you put the Fox 2.0 shocks on...and it's getting progressively worse. Idea. Why don't you put the stock shocks BACK on the truck and give it a try. Then....you can go back to dealer number 1, 2, or 3 and tell them you did an experiment that DIDN'T fix what they thought it might be. Also...JohnDeere....I thought you were trading the yours in due to "Too Tight" steering....not loose steering??? Lots of guys on here with levels anywhere from 1 inch to 3....and lots of stock trucks. Anyone else having an issue with a loose feeling wheel or wandering?
Back in 2001 I bought a brand new F350 that had a sloppy steering box. I took it in and they replaced it with a new one. It took about 2 hours. Its an easy job. Back then they blamed it on junky steering boxes they were buying from Mexico. I don't know if they still resource them there or not now.
For what its worth. Back then, the service manager took my truck for a drive. He gave me the oh so familiar "they all do that" response. I told him that I wasn't going to lay down on the issue, and that I wanted the box replaced or I'd just keep coming back and complaining about it. He replaced it and the problem was fixed with the new box.
If you've been driving a vehicle with a rack and pinion, coming to a conventional steering, solid axle vehicle can be a big difference. Before you go to make demands of your dealer service department for a potentially non-existent problem , I'd recommend you test drive another 17' with the same suspension package as yours.

Mine is too tight at low speeds but loose as a goose at high speeds. I added Bilstein shocks and a Fox ATS stabilizer to mine. Nothing helped. On my '15 SD the Bilsteins actually made it better
Hear ya JohnDeere. I added Bilsteins to my 2006 KR and it did make the ride better and tightened things up. Wish they could do something to keep you in the Superduty....but the 150 is a great truck also. Wonder how loose your's is at high speed compared to Bassboatman's??
