I have just 200 miles on my truck and I have the same exhaust smell. I come inside the house, sit at my desk, and have the smell on my body. This really concerns me. I called the service department and asked if they ever had anyone else complain about a similar smell, and he said I was the first.
I’ve just started to get exhaust smell in the truck as well. I really noticed it the other day when I did a remote start. Truck ran for about 5 minutes and when I climbed in the smell was strong. I don’t ever smell it while moving, just when still. I’ll check all the things mentioned above today. When is the clamp @frosty31 where is the clamp that had the missing worm gear?
My truck has about 1100 miles on it.
I’m having the same problem taking it in to dealership Tuesday. I know what they are going to tell me that they can’t find anything wrong I’ve had it going on from day one of buying it thought it might be because it was new but not going away It comes and goes with no rhyme or reason when it does it. I keep reading what everyone else has been finding just to see what people are finding.
Sorry not to reply concerning question on exhaust smell. If you are smelling the "good ole' diesel smell, then yes you have an exhaust leak somewhere. If your smelling "other types" of smell it usually a result of turning off engine during a regeneration process. In my case it was actually almost driving off the lot I got the DIESEL smell. It was a result of the clamp off the back of the down tube coming off turbo. The tech found that the clamp worm gear was missing. Therefore the clamp was allowing the smell inside the cab. If you put your climate control on recirculate the smell would not be as prevelant. As mentioned before it's very difficult to get to which required the top intake "black plastic on top of engine" to be removed to repair a 5.00 clamp. Good luck, hopefully I was clearer on what was found. The great quality control of Ford for a 80,000 truck. Stupid truck gets to visit every 1.5 months. Getting really tired of it. Dealer has been great, FORD TURNS THEIR BACK!!! Problem after problem. Seems to never end. Sorry guys. Been in a rental truck while my truck sleeps at their dealer again.

My understanding is that if you buy the extended warranty now, with the rental coverage, you get a free rental starting now. Might be worth buying the extended warranty early.
It's not about rental coverage. The service loaner is free from the dealer. It's about all the problems. I expect early on their may be a issue or 2, but I have had the described problem trying to help fellow readers, along with 3 sensor issues that was resolved with 2 Dearborn engineer visits. First tow, towing less than 5000 lbs a rear pinion seal blow out to now 2 separate adaptive cruise module issues and now memory seats, steering column being stuck. When you spend the money Ford ask for their high margin product, you expect more. Buying extended warranty is another money making excuse that shouldn't be necessary for piece of mind past your bumper to bumper coverage. I haven't listed all issues, its the frustration and time spent getting repairs. I contacted Ford customer service about an extended warranty and claimed if they are confident about their product to provide that piece of mind. Well, the answer was no....you have warranty. If I have to buy a warranty, I'll buy something else. Have had many Ford products as well as other brands. This truck has surpassed all the other vehicles total visits combined all by itself. I love the truck, but if it continues it won't be in my garage.
Frosty pending how many days total your rig has been in shop look up your states lemon law rules if you are within them call ford regional customer service ask to speak with a manager and tell him your going to lemon law the truck. I had a ton of issues with my 15 first they extended warranty and paid a monthly payment. Six months later more issues with the rig. I told them I'm done I'm going to lemon law it and ford replaced my truck with a 17. Process was long and frustrating but ford made it right. Send me a PM if you need more help sorry your going through that I know it sucks.
I have the same problem with my 2017 f350, 130 miles on it.... I brought it in and they could smell the exhaust leak and have to tear it down (take the intake off) to try and find the leak. It seams this is a little common. For the guys that have this issue tell the dealer it's a safety issue and you need it fixed. If your dealer says they can't find it take it to a different dealer. Also the have them change the cabin air filter because that will hold the smell of the exhaust. My dealer said it will be covered under warranty for the leak and filter
Im noticing when stopped and at idle with recirculation off, I have a HEAVY smell. I believe diesel because it’s giving me a headache but originally assumed it was because it’s brand new. (Then I read this thread and saw something about an exhaust leak.) Planning to take it to the dealer on Monday, if it was just burn off from being new would it be gone after 600+ miles?
After 3 different Ford mechanics looked at it, tested it, and found no issues yet I could smell exhaust in the cab I had to get rid of the truck due to constant headaches when driving it. Ever since it was sold, I have had ZERO headaches driving to work.
There was an exhaust leak though small which made its way into the cab on every drive.
Frustrated to say the least.....good luck to all those with similar issues.
Update for my leak - it was in fact a leak and here is the email I got from my service advisor. Picking up the truck likely tomorrow and will follow up but it seems they found my problem.
