Check out my build thread for my take on the ZF clutch hydraulics.......No firewall reinforcement needed........Mine is a remote mount that utilizes the stock linkage all the way down thru the floorboard......Not sure if it will work in a gas application, but it doesn't take up much room.......Just food for thought......

I found a great step by step rebuild guide for a ZF: ZF5 (S5-47) Transmission Rebuild | Diesel Truck Forum - Oilburners.net
A great way to check whether a ZF needs to be rebuilt is by simply grabbing the input shaft and seeing if there is free play front to back. These trans require preload on the bearings. If it jiggles you have worn bearings and need new.
