I know this is an older thread but I bought a couple sets of F-150 take off running boards off of craigslist, $40 for one set of the plastic boards from an xl truck and $60 for a set of grey (magnetic) colored steps off of a Lariat.
I have the plastic xl boards on mine right now, haven’t had time to try out the other set. I really like how the boards protect the rocker areas of the truck and also from door dings from idiots swinging their doors out. The door contacts the steps well before hitting the side of the truck.
Looking forward to trying out the little wider Lariat steps with these shorter F-150 step mounts.

Interesting that some of Ford’s steps have three mounts/hangers on each side and some of them have two mounts/hangers on each side.
I guess after looking into it a little more some of the F150’s only have two mounts instead of three. Seems like most super duties have three, except the extended super duty steps, which have two on the main step (like the F-150’s), then a third type of support on the rear for the extended portion of the running board.
The plastic steps I currently have on my truck from an F-150 have three.

YEAH that is the look I am looking for! Thanks guys. I need 3 each side. Hackenbush, what did you pay if I may ask? May just go to Craig's list for take off and re-sell after bracket swap if that is more cost effective. Ctimrun I've already had to do PDR as my stock running boards offer zero protection for doors. I know they are not for that, but if I can kill 2 birds....

I may be able to shed some additional light regarding the 2 vs 3 brackets on the running boards.
My 2017 CC came with the running boards under the doors only; there was not extension beside the bed. These running boards had three (3) brackets.
I found an extended set on CL and swapped them onto my truck. I was surprised to find only two brackets on the main steps and one support for the extension. The steps are surprisingly heavier than the last set, so I was even more baffled by only two (2) brackets.
See this picture comparing them...

You only need two brackets per side. I replaced my steps with F150 steps. They are designed for only two brackets. No reason two brackets should not be enough if that’s enough for the F150.

Thanks for the confirmation, I was hoping that was the case. Any idea what year F150 boards work? I've seen people say 2015 and newer?

I also did this mod, pretty brilliant. I was able to get 4 brackets off a 2015 F150 on craigslist for $80.
The part number is FL3Z16A506AA, but there is an engineering number printed on the bracket though FL34-16470-AAW.
I have 4 brackets on there now, and it seems pretty stable, but ultimately, I'd like to have 6 again, placing one where the driver and front passenger will constantly be stepping. But it's not a priority, I'm sure without it'll be just fine as well.
