Question AC confusion

Have some confusion with my new 2003 F-150 XLT supercab..
with respect to airconditioning , I get cold (freezing) air from all selction setting except pannel which gives me normal outside air..
I expected AC to work only in the AC and MAX AC selections, not floor, defrost, floor and pannel, and floor and defrost...

Ip osted this on the heating and AC post before i knew the ful extent of the symptoms........

Is this normal or a bug in my truck...

AC confusion

Flattop,

I also have a 2003 XLT (4 X 4). I was very confused when I first got my truck. But you are mostly correct on the settings. From memory.

Max AC - runs the AC in recirculating mode (no outside air) -- note all other setting mix outside air except of course off or whatever it is called (can't remember from memory)
AC - Runs the AC (I guess thru the panel vent)
Panel - Runs the AC
Off - No fan, no outside are, nothing (owners manual cautions not to leave the vehicle set in the summer in this setting as the car will not vent)
Floor - Does not run the AC
Panel and Floor - Runs the AC
Floor and Defrost - Runs the AC
Defrost - Runs the AC

Bottom line is the AC runs in most settings. I guess in cold weather a thermostat will prevent the AC from running.

Could anyone verify that the AC will not run in cold weather and at what temperature will the AC not run.

AC confusion

I have a 2003 XLT Supercrew- I had the same confusion, the only way the selector can be set so the A/C doesn't run is in the "off" or "panel" posisition.

I thought this was a malfunction and contacted the dealer, They said "that's the way it works".

The A/C should run on an as needed basis on the "Floor" and "panel and Floor" positions. I don't think the outside temperature will prevent the A/C from running, it is a factor of the inside temperature setting in these positions.

AC confusion

The a/c will run in cold weather to dehumidify the air in the cab.

AC confusion

A/C fails because many people pull fuses during the winter on older models. Small leaks cause Freon leak down, etc. I was asking one of the mechanics about why the late models A/C runs and he told me it will cycle even when the heat is on, this is to prevent problems we all have experienced in the past, from not using the A/C in cold weather.

Makes sense or cents to me.

AC confusion

The A/C compressor will run in Max a/c, a/c, vent and floor, def and floor and def.
It will not run in Panel, floor, and off.
The Compressor is controlled by the low pressure switch. The lower the temp(heat load) the less pressure you will have. As temps get real low, it may cycle on and off more to keep things from freezing up.
