Hello all thanks for looking
I'm looking into a shell for my crew cab, I have never had a truck with a shell so I have a few questions for those that have.
Ive looked at snugtop, leer and Are and to me they all seem close to the same. I don't see many pictures on there websites of the inside of them. So my questions are
How does it does it fasten to the truck? If you take it off every once in a while how hard is it and does it scratch the truck?
With the rear window open on the truck is there a opening on the shell so my dog can poke his head in the cab? That is how he likes to ride if he cant he just barks and ya cant teach an old dog new tricks haha
If you guys have them on your 17's it would be great to see them.
Thank you

I have an ARE. Mine is just painted fiberglass on the inside, they have a carpet option. The topper clamps to the bedrails, with a rubber gasket between it and the paint. Yes, we have a window that opens on the front of the topper.
Nice, that is just what I'm looking for. Is it a little higher in the rear or is that just the angle of the picture? I need to stay pretty much even with the cab to get in the garage.
Thanks!
We chose the Leer. Our final decision was made after checking in with a local dealer of the shells and seeing each type for ourselves. The Leer won't rub up and take paint off. It also has a carpet inside over the fiberglass sides. There were many options to go with on the Leer so you can upgrade or downgrade as needed on certain things. Best bet would be to go see them for yourself and decide then.
Maypo, if your truck is sitting on level ground the rear looks a few inches taller than the cab. I know the front end is lower but I back my truck into my garage so I'm worried id hit. I hope this not asking too much but if you have a chance can you measure from the ground to the top rear of that top? Id hate to buy it and have issues with getting in the garage.
thank you
I get about 82".. our garage door is opening is 84" (7'), it won't fit in the garage because of length, but the cap did clear when I backed it in a few feet to load a bunch of stuff when it was raining yesterday. It's close, that's for sure. We are actually thinking of lowering the rear 2", instead of raising the front to level, will help my wife who is only 5' 4" tall..
Awesome then I should be ok..I may do the lowering of the rear also my wife is a few inches shorter than yours Thanks for the help buddy enjoy your new ride.

I went withe the Leer shell,Im still waiting for it to come in. I was told that Leer was the only one that is making one that will fit the tailgate on the 17ing at this time. I might have been lied to but this is what I was told. I use the shell on my old truck a lot, especially when we go camping. I can lock stuff away.

I won't say "lied to".. but from my experience.. "given wrong info"... LOL
Ours fits the tailgate just fine. If you look at the picture with the tailgate down and door up, you can see the profiles match just fine..
What do these cost a couple grand or so? I may go down tomorrow and take a look and some.
Ours is the most basic one, no extra frills except the tilt out front window and custom painted. Just like the other manufacturers, they have LOTS of options. We paid $1610 installed.
My buddy ordered one for his truck the same day, his is a different model topper, same brand, couple other options, he spent about a grand more.
I have a Leer 100XQ on my Titan. When I bought it 10 years ago it was hands down the best looking topper available. Leer seems to put a bit more thought into how the topper complements the truck. The lines of the topper window flow nicely from the backseat windows of the cab.
The paint on my Leer has worn well, but my truck is almost always garaged.
As maypo59 said above there are LOTS of options. I have the roof rack rails on mine plus the carpeted interior and the interior light. The rack rails are only so useful. The topper isn't rated to carry more than a couple hundred pounds on the roof.
The topper will weigh around 250 to 300 lbs, depending on options. Removing it from the truck is at least a two man job, four is safer. I built a lift to pull mine off using my winch. It works great but I've only pulled the topper off twice and one of those times was just to prove that the lift system worked.
I haven't decided if I want a topper on my F-350. Leer will probably be my first choice.
If anyone offers LED strip lighting on the ceiling I will add that option for sure. Otherwise, I'll add it myself along with a disco ball.
