New to Excursion's

I need a good towing machine and I like SUV's, so the Excursion is the answer, but I would like to know if parts and accessories are still readily available as some are 15 years old. Just some general advice and info on owning one of these land yachts. Thanks in advance.

I got a 2000 in August and I am loving it. Most Super Duty parts will be identical to the EX parts as it is basically an F250 with a flat chassis instead of made for a box. The suspension parts are different as it is lower to the ground. I'll let the experts chime in with details.

As mentioned, The Excursion is built on the first generation 99-04 super duty platform of which there were approx. 4 million built. Parts are readily available with heavy after market support.

General advise,
do your research, get familiar with the Excursion, avoid the 6.0 diesel, don't overpay.

Generally, parts are available, since as mentioned many parts are identical to '99-'16 superduty. Some may require a junkyard hunt, for small interior parts.
Excursion specific parts for collision repairs, 2nd row doors, rear barn doors, and rear quarter glass are tough.
The biggest "risk" is being damaged in an accident beyond what insurance considers more expensive than it's worth.
A well maintained 6L Excursion is valuable, the issues are well known, and it is much easier for a DIY-er than the new more heavily computerized engines.
It becomes more of a hobby though to keep wanting to fix/upgrade things to fix the squeeks and bump sounds.
new aftermarket body mounts finally are available.

I think that the 6.0 PSD is a good engine if you treat it right and make a couple mods. They were used in many school buses and other heavy equipment with great success. A low mile 6.0 demands a good price. Keep your eye out and you can find a good deal. Lastly, if you have some questions just ask.

We bought ours 1 1/2 years ago to tow a 7k trailer and love it.
The V10 does fine and I've not had any problems finding parts.
I spent about $2k upgrading a stock vehicle for towing.
For towing I wouldn't even consider the 5.4L.
