I recently rebuilt a 351W for my 91 Bronco. Installed a COMP CAM 447 Lift. The engine runs great esp/w 3" exhaust/w FlowMaster. The problem seems that with the original EOD transmission, the transmission seems to go into 2nd gear prematurely even on level ground. This is esp true with the A/C on. Is there any adjustments that can be made to help with this. I have been told I need to have the manufacture re-program the computer or install a C-6 Transmission, (which I believe could not happen due to not having enough vacum to operate a C-6). Any suggentions?
NCO, do you still have a vacuum modulator valve on the AOD? If so, there should be an adjustment inside it. If you remove the hose, you can insert a small flat-head screwdriver into the vacuum port, and adjust the shift points.
If you don't have a modulator, forget I said anything......
Are we talkng AOD or E4OD? The E4OD is fully electronic and therefore has no vaccuum regulator. Adjustments are made via the communication between tranny, computer, and engine. The changes made could be providing sensor responses that are off enough to affect the shift pattern but not enough to trigger any trouble codes. In that case, you may well need to make programming adjustments to the computer to compensate.
Thank you gentlemen for your assistance. Yes, unfortunately it is a E4OD transmission. So based on your advise, the only option is to have the dealer reporogram the computer. Is that correct?
I did all of this work to the engine so I would have an easier time pulling a travel trailer. I must admit the HP and torqe have dramatically increased.
Now, I have not had an opportunity yet to pull the trailer. However, I wonder when I do, if the premature shifting will subside or become more noticeable. Isuspect it will become more noticeable, causing more engency to rectify this problem.
