I'm swapping a 5.8/E4OD from a '95 F150 into an old '52 F3...
The million dollar question: what all do I need to transfer over to make the motor run and make the PCM happy? I've got a box of harnesses from the previous owner of the '95... obviously waaaaay more than I'll need.
I do have the engine harness separate as well as the harness for the tranny, so that's a good start.
I also have the "main" harness with the power distribution box and PCM.
Then of course there's another large harness with the massive connector that takes everything back from the engine compartment... I'm really hoping I don't need anything from this spider web mess.
Any insight from the experts would be hugely appreciated! All I care about is getting the motor/tranny to work (I'll run my own wires for lights, etc. later).
The engine harness with the computer to run the engine and the transmission should be all you need. Of course you will need to mount the oxygen sensors in the exhaust, and see where the speed sensor is, they were usually in the rearend. You will also need to swap over the fuel tanks. Here's a link where you can look up schematics.
P.S. If this is not 4wd, you probably do not have any place to run your old timey speedometer with it's cable. You could run the newer speedo, but that's more wires.
i sure hope you're right...
yes, planning to add O2 sensor(s) (anyone know if it is one or two, and heated or not?).
thanks for the link-- i'll dig around.
yes, i've got fuel tank from donor, too. (guess that will need plugged in somewhere, too).
where does VSS (from rearend) plug in to (which) harness?
cheers.

The one with the map is going to be some sort of sensor or something with the computer. Are you labelling all this stuff as you discover it? What I would do is get masking tape and a sharpie, and when you find something put a piece around it and label it. Then print out the diagram below and check it off.
As you find more more things, the process of elimination will help you. Once you get down to some things you don't know about, carefully clean the wires, and then look at your diagram and see what is not checked off. This system should work ok for the computer stuff. Here's the diagram.
