I drive a 2010 6.4L Powerstroke F-250 SuperDuty . A real beauty. We've seen alot of km's in the past 3 yrs. I recently started working approx 20min from home. So exhaust burn cycle is becoming a huge issue. At random times..usually in middle of town i will start chugging "white chocolate smoke" which i figure is the constant diesel fuel being dumped everytime cycle starts burning off. I love my Beast and do not want to give him up. What can i do to fix this issue. Preferably without going Bankrupt..
Napp.
That is exactly it senix. i have a systems monitor programed into my aftermarket stereo system. Its linked directly to the trucks comp system. so i can monitor the exhaust temp. as well as various other things. I think i may have to have full filter cleaned;however, i suspect a programming glitch as the "drive to clean" only comes up for a few seconds then quits. 10 min later...Rolling White fog. kind of embarassing.
Rolling white fog is embarrassing - Ford and the EPA solution for the environment.
Exactly, you are not driving hard enough or far enough for the regeneration to do its thing to burn out the soot accumulating in the DPF - soon you'll see the "Wrench" on the dash.
I'm using a ODBLINK MX WiFi with my iPhone and I used to monitor the Exhaust Back Pressure and Diesel Particle Filter Back Pressure in the app - there is also a PID that indicates that the Regeneration is occurring. Never failed, as soon as the DPF Back Pressure was about 30% of EBP constantly, the regeneration would occur and I'd get the white cloud.
The legal repair is to take it to a dealer and have the DPF replaced by those who can handle and dispose of the carcinogenic materials with great care, and cost. Or research "off road racing pipe and tuner", for off road racing obviously.
Haha...believe me it's not not for lack of driving hard. I'm a bit of an acceleration junkie. Had a third party mod attached to fuel pump and map sensor but had to remove it cause it was crapping out. However , yes the distance thing is correct but it isn't something that can't be helped. So I need a solution that is affordale
I have had lesser known basic tuners on my last 2 diesels...loved it! Pissed now I am only avg 500km per 110L where I used to get near 700km out of a fillup
not sure what us gallons vs imperial are, but it sounds like it is lower than I'd expect.
I could get 13 city and 17 hwy empty runs.
there is another program that may help, not sure. It is called forescan. A computer based program that talks with a bluetooth connected to the obd port.
that may allow a manual regen. or at least some diagnostics. I think you only need to pay for the blue tooth device. They are cheap.
Lol to explain it.. US gallons is the imperial system. Canadian trucks are measured in Litres/100km. Either or.. Let's just say my mileage sucks..haha.. Thank you for the advice buds ,appreciate it. I have been looking all weekend at diesel tuners; however, I have a local diesel specialist I'm going to contact first to ensure its nothing more serious.
Cheers
