T56 Swap?!?

Has anyone looked into the possibility of this swap? Planning to build a long bed sport truck.

Also considering Crown Vic suspension for the handling.

Search nloc(dot)net, there used to be a good write up for a TKO I believe.
Also at nloc(dot)net, a thread showing the crown vic install, on a bronco frame, same would apply to your truck. Its not a bolt in deal, as it is with the 67-79 trucks.
Just food for thought, factory M5R2 will handle a healthy v8 just fine and lowering the stock suspension, will allow it to handle a lil better, both much more budget friendly.

assuming its 2wd, its a very straight forward swap.

it'll cost a pretty penny as well, unless you are lucky enough to source a t56/sbf bell used...which wont be easy.

how is a t56 different than another trans for how it bolts to the bell?

The T56 was never offered behind a SBF engine, so factory bell housings do not exist.

Last I checked it is a universal 4 bolt pattern for bell housings

or is the t56 different?

The T56 needs a bell with a huge hole in it. The nose end of the tranny is bigger than the main body is. No factory installed SBF had this trans behind it. An aftermarket bell is available from several sources, though.

While many of the Tremec 5-speeds use the "GM/Muncie" 4-bolt transmission-bellhousing pattern, the T56 is different.

What they said. It's not an issue except for cost.
