Ok i started buying parts to tune up my 400. My question is now bare with me. The truck is 78 F150 4x4. The motor was changed from the 351m to a 400 years ago by my grandpa with a motor from a 1974 vehicle (after checking block casting numbers). Assuming its from a car like a LTD. I been looking at fuel pumps. I see ones for the year of the motor but there some that say 4x4 only but are only listed for years of late 70s trucks. Does it matter which pump i get? Was there a difference in flow rate between a car 400 an a truck 400? Been hell finding correct parts not knowing the year of the motor till now.

 

If you already have it off the motor take it with you to the parts store and just look at both.

 

Not yet its my daily. They seem to look the same other then the direction of the inlet an outlet.

 

The 2WD truck and full size car use the same pump(carter M6882). It fits all 351M/400. Flow rate is not an issue. This should be the one on your motor.
