So in a effort to exhaust possible options. I came up with the idea of using a regular utility bed but flipping it 180* so that the shorter box was on the front. I realize this would put the fuel filler neck on thewrong side which could be fixed. The front panel and tailgate panel would have to also be swapped. Seems easy enough. Theonly other thing wouldbe doors that might have to be flipped but i doubt it would have to be done. Seems easy enough right?
The idea is using a shoter wheelbase truck. A typical utility box is 9ft. The swb truck is about 16-17 inches shorter than the lwb. Ive got the truck currently and a used itility bed ranges from 300 to 800 bucks for a decent one. Selling the truck and locating another truck might not be as benificial based on what i currently have invested in this truck. Again looking for ideas. Fitting the truck with boxes will cost 1500 to 3500. A new swb bed is likely over 5 grand. So im looking for options.
this is interesting becuase I wanted to pick up a 12 foot ambulance box and bring it home and was thinking of putting it on backwards on my 8ft CC to get it home.
my suggesting to you is to be on the look out for a diamondback bed cover which can hold 1500lbs unsuppoted and just uuse it as a flatbed. yo can get them pretty cheap if you find one with no locks, broken hinges, etc. its just as wide and long as an 8ft bed.
*A look for a shortbed used from a wrecked truck, B if you buy a new Take off bed from Redding they usually sell them for $2k but you may to wait for your color to come up or C look around for an 8' flatbed. I bought a used one that only had the headboard. Once mounted, I added boxes as needed.

I currently have a 7ft x 7ft flatbed on the truck. The boxes i will need are a bigger cost then the whole service bed. If i made the servicebed work i could easily unload a swb flatbed. Especially one that is bolt on to prexisting holes. I found some great boxes on the rki site and they are right at 1400 bucks a side. That is simply top of the bed boxes. If i went cheaper tractor supply has boxes which would be about half the cost and not fit each other. That would leave me with finding below bed boxes at 200-300 bucks. So... 3k is out of budget. And ill be pushing that cobbling boxes together. If i sold the flatbed for say 1500 bucks id have a grand to put twards a packrat and steel for a ladder rack. Which would be the most cost effective. A sheetmetal bed ive located for 200-500 bucks but after paint it was going to be too expensive and id be in about the same boat as i am with the flatbed trying to make it work.
I converted the stake body to a utility body with alum truck boxes. I would buy them off CL for $400/set and have them powder coated @ $100/pair. So, $500/pair, I ended up with 4 sets. 1 pair of 93" for each left and right and then 2 pair where I cut in in half to make up most of the remaining space (12' length) I'll take pics tomorrow.
Ask and you shall receive. The boxes under the body were from Redding when I had it built. The large one was $450. Not sure about small ones. I have 61" between boxes in the back. about 10' from fuel tank to the rear gates. In my case, I was trying to get away from having to use a small enclosed trailer for my every day tools and this allows me to drag other types of trailers as needed.
