8BA fuel line connection

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong with this carb flex line and cooper fuel line connection?

The fitting that came w/ the cooper fuel line screws into the flex female end without the furrel(sp?) just fine but won't fit in with them (fitting & furrel) together?

Looks to me like the nut itself will clamp down. The Ferrel is for a compression fitting I could be wrong but then stranger things have happened. Someone else will let us know I am sure. I would have to get my book out but now I am thinking that that might a flare end.

Copper isn't recommended for fuel lines, it gets brittle from vibration and cracks. Use steel brake line, it comes with the correct flare fittings already.

Steel line comes in the correct size. Check a good parts store. Probably even have it in the correct or usable length.

It may be called Fuel Line in the proper 5/16" diameter, but it's steel
