Making a fuel line

Well I got my tools and went down to the auto parts store for fuel line. Seems the line comes is precut lengths with the ends already flared and the fittings in place. Got a couple and cut the end off of one as the reason is obvious. Tell you one thing, as I tried it, making a double flare takes a lot of muscle effort turning the flaring tool down. Anyway all the fuel lines I have seen have a bell shaped flare at the end of the line where the rubber hose attaches for the final inches to the carb. They are never a straight cut it seems from the factory. Is that important, and if so how does one duplicate that, or can I skip it?

I usually just keep it straight and use 2 clamps.

Same, except for the piece between fuel pump and carb, prefer molding the fuel line to fit, then flaring the ends and use fittings. Occasionally had a heck of a time lining the fitting up to get it threaded so few years back replaced with the 'cut to fit' metal mesh fuel line and pleased with results.

It's hard to duplicate the end you want. I've used the double-flare adapter to get the flare started but not finished. Recently I bought a "bubble flare" tool for about 20-25$ for brake lines.

Hydraulic flare tools make those really nice but can be cost prohibitave.

See if you can rent one at a parts house.
