I know this is a very common problem, and I know it has been going on for years with the lids breaking easily and there not being a way to get parts for them.
I just bought a jumpseat/fold down console to install in my Excursion. I got it from an 04 F350 Lariat. I also was able to grab the passenger seat with power adjust. This is what the console looks like now, after I took the lid off to see if I could repair it or re-glue the vinyl back under it.
NO CHANCE of fixing the lid. Someone put a lot of weight on top of it at some point and broke the lid all up. Also, the padding around the cupholders was peeling up around the edges, so I pulled that off as well to see if I could repair that. That cup holder padding can be done, but not by me. I am buying a replacement pad off eBay from a retired upholstery guy in Houston. His product looks good.
That leaves me with the lid for the storage area. I have spoken with a very good wood worker near me, and he says he can make me a mesquite/pecan/cedar...whatever I want...lid to replace the broken one. He took mine and is working on a prototype to test fit on mine and work some bugs/details out. No idea what cost is yet till he makes the prototype and figures out cost to him.
My question to the brothers/sisters on the forum here:
Who else might be in for a solid wood lid to replace their broken vinyl/plastic lid on this specific type of console?
What if he could engrave and customize it for you with a Ford logo, college logo, "Come and Take It" logo, etc?
Would anyone be interested in a group buy?
HOW MUCH would you be willing to spend on such a replacement lid so I know if his cost is going to be too high for most people?
This is all "what if", but it is looking very promising...
I'll post up photos when he gets the prototype done.
Yes, the stitching was quick and dirty. Just wanted to make sure it works, and it works great with the recess cut into the lid. "Hardware" is tight and doesn't move around.
Hey man for the center console lid that ur buddy made out of wood. Can i still buy one? I have a 06 lariat and need same style as u have pictured. I want it to resemble the doors wood grain finish same color. Can u let me know how much and who to send to?
Mine was stained Mahogany to match the trim in my X. You can use whatever wood you like...the stain is what matters. I have sent a request to my friend checking to see if he will make more. Yes, he has sold a few since doing this with me, and mine has held up great with several layers of lacquer on it.

He has cherry, maple, walnut, and pecan available as of right now. Get some more posts under your belt, and I will PM you his number. I can't put it here for the whole internet to see.

Any way you could contact me about a lid. I'm new to this and have no idea how to use this or get into contact with people. Nine1two-two7eight-3two5nine
That turned out pretty darn nice! Do you know what he has done to the wood to help stabilize it from the risk of warping and/or cracking? With the temp and humidity ranges that vehicles experience, I'm just wondering. Definetly interested in the possible replacement for mine...
