I run a dashcam in my semi. I bought a Matgoe 380 which is a Chinese camera marketed under different names. The user manual is a form of Engrish LOL. I think I paid $99 for it and I'm very happy. It does have gps tracking but it displays in kmp. There is an American version of the same camera for twice the money but I forget the name brand. I just wanted something to protect myself in court if it ever came down to it. But like has been mentioned the camera can help you or hurt you. Anyway if you want to waste 6 minutes of your life here's a clip I made last year.
I purchased a WheelWitness HD PRO Dash Cam with GPS, Motion Detector G Sensor 124.97 from Amazon. It has Super HD 1296P (2304×1296) resolution, WDR, a 170 degree extra-wide-angle lens. I added a 64GB SanDisk. Comes with 3 different mounts including a suction cup. Great little unit for the money.
The dashcam (Viofo A119) is right in front of the lane departure camera in the rear view mirror and blocks its forward view. I wasn't really paying attention when I stuck the camera on there but realized later that steering wheel shake had stopped. That is the one and only safety system on the truck I didn't really like so I haven't re-positioned the dash cam yet.
When deciding where to mount, also check the sweep of your wipers. You'll want the camera within the sweep area. I didn't think about this until the first rain after I installed.
Wipers is a great point. You definitely want the view to be through a clean portion of the windshield. I was thinking about that when I mounted mine but didn't think of the lane departure camera is inside the left front of the rear view mirror. Some folks mount on the right side of the rear view mirror and others put the cameras below.

I have the A119s mounted on the other side, behind the rearview mirror. I placed the sticky part on the shaded area. Great camera so far.
