T98 rebuild

had anyone here rebuilt aT98, how hard is it to do, and how big of an arbor press do you need. (1ton harbor freight press work)??

thanks upfront for any imput

Marc, they are easy to do. Well I would guess it depends on your skill level. You can either get a kit or if you have a bearing/seal dealer in your area you can buy what you need. Kits are easier as you do get any gaskets it might take. If you need any gears they can be found on the net. If you need a cluster gear that might be a problem, as i heard there is a guy that bought out the last of the cluster gears out there, but he is out your way. Thats if they are the same as the T-18 which many of the parts are. Important thing to have is the correct number of teeth when looking for gears. I have to guess that if you are playing with such an old truck you can handle the rebuild.

If you need something stronger than your small press, most machine shops have bigger ones and can do any pressing you might have to get done. One more thing, use vaseline to hold your needle bearings in place NOT GREASE! The grease won't break down and give room for the lube to get in.
