Bypassing Fuel Selector Switch

Anyone know how to bypass the fuel selector switch? I have two tanks and the selector switch chooses which tank is being read by the fuel gauge. I want to install a second fuel gauge to have a designated gauge for each tank. To do so I need to remove and bypass the selector switch.

this is on a 1969 F250 Ranger

Does it switch tanks or just the gauge? It shouldn't be too hard to figure out which wires go to the tank and which to the gauge and just splice in, leave everything else alone if it has a solenoid switching valve.

1967/72 F100/350 with optional 25 gallon auxiliary fuel tank & 1973/74 F100/350 with dual fuel tanks:

Manually operated fuel tank selector valve is located on the floor adjacent to the drivers side of the seat. The selector switch only changes the dash fuel gauge from one tank to the other.

1975/79 F100/350 with dual fuel tanks has a fuel tank selector valve and solenoid assy. The switch changes the fuel tanks and the dash fuel gauge from one tank to the other.

it switches the gauge only. I have a separate manual valve switch. I started working with my aux tank first. I found both wires, the sender wire and the connector wire, that feed into the switch. The problem from there is I don't have the wire that leads from the switch to the gauge. My original thought was to splice the two wires with a third wire to lead to the gauge. However, the sender wire is a 16g wire and the connector is a 18g wire. Both hot. I don't know how safe it would be to join the two and link them to the fuel gauge wire.

yes, I have the wiring diagram. I just know little when it comes to electrical. So I'm not sure if it's safe to attach the sender wire (16g) and the connector wire (18g) together directly to the gauge wire (unknown size because it's missing).

For the distance you are running it, the wire gauge shouldn't matter.
