Research and development parts

Did ford make research and dev vehicles? Found a honey hole of 150,250 s at rural pick and pull. There is a 87 f250 that I am getting parts for my 84 f150 most of the stuff is a direct fit. I got a 87 pinhole cowl vent but it says RD 1987.. Just wondering

Ford makes LOTS of research and development vehicles are parts. They have part numbers that start with XF. I worked with many, many prototypes in the 25 years that I worked with or for Ford and never saw one that said RD. That is probably a code for a particular vendor that made that part.

Mark Kovalsky, did you ever see the 2 barrel variant of the log intake manifold for the 4.9L engine?

Do you have one and if so can you post a picture of it? I would like to see it.

I know AMC had a v2 intake for the 258/six that was an option and not many are out there. It also used a different air filter assy. that is even harder to come by.
