Anyone know a good link/write up to a cab swap of this nature? CCSB highboy on a CCSB 05-07 SD frame with a 6.0. I know I've seen a few things online about guys doing it with Dodge frames and a few guys talking about possibly using an 8th or 9th gen ford frame.
Bang for buck I see myself coming out way ahead suspension and drivetrain wise than taking a highboy, trying to make a 12valve fit, put in better axles with decent brakes, custom 4 linking the front, etc, etc.
Following.. this is exactly what I wanted to do with my CCSB. Put it on an 05-07 complete drivetrain swap from a rollover. Trade the battle of engine, trans, axles, brakes, steering, fab work and decisions and take a whole frame and adapt. The better turning radius, coil spring front, brakes and power of the 6.0 would be great.
My logic is I can pickup a 05-07 6.0 for less than 10k. Go ahead and but a john woods 5r100 in there, rebuild the 6.0 and the axles, blast and powdercoat the frame and I'm in it for $23000 and I have an engine with plenty of power, great axles and suspension.... Find a decent CCSB highboy and plop it on. Somehow put my SD gauge cluster behind the glass, put the SD column in there... It's good to go bro. After paint and body I'm only in it for $35-40k.
Or try and adapt that all to a highboy frame and spend 2 years doing it and who knows how much money.
Seems like you've thought about it and put forward a pretty appropriate budget. Down here i've seen a few 6.0 rollovers without frame damage that still ran and drove for 4-7k range. Easy to do all the 6.0 'motor work' with the engine on a rolling chassis instead of under a SD cab. The frame is about 4 inches wider than a dent (or at least mine, 34 inch dent and the SD lists at about 38 wide) I'll be going to measure a buddys 06 this weekend to check into everything else. The one thing that would take time is all the electrical etc that comes with the new PSD, as to where the 12 valve is nearly stand-alone. But i suppose nothing time and good labeling couldn't sort out..
