Slip joint lubrication
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...at-next-4.html
I've owned a lot of Ford trucks and always had this problem. My solution is to drop the driveshaft, clean the splines thoroughly with brake cleaner and then lube with grease. I've always used Belray waterproof grease that i use on my motorcycles. In the thread they also recommend the Ford XG8 PFTE grease as well. People also have good luck with waterproof marine grease.
Make sure to mark both ends of the driveshaft and how they line up with the rear axle and transmission (single piece shaft) or front piece of shaft (2 piece shaft). They are factory balanced together and need to go back together in the exact same way.
Doing this I can usually got about 18-24 months before the sounds comes back and I have to relube it.
My 02 F150 did it, my 05 F250 and now my 13 is doing it as well. Some day Ford will figure out a permanent solution?
