yes i looked at some images of the zf could possibly run into issues with clutch likage and emergency brake, i need the pto as i have a vintage 7000 lb hiab or knucle boom that im going to install,foco 303 i know ive posted pics here before but i cant figure it out now lol
Since you have a 302 engine, you might take a look at the ZF 5 speed, used in Ford trucks in the 90's. Would bolt right up. Not sure if they were offered where you are though...
And they are much more common(ZF's), can be found in medium and heavy duty versions, all with overdrive, and they are a modern trans: they are lighter and have parts available.
I researched those clarks some years ago.....wow, they are the opposite of ZF's: They weight ~250lbs(!!!), the overdrive versions are almost impossible to find, parts are hard to find and expensive, I needed a T98 bellhousing to hook a clark 280VO to my 223(yes, I know, waaaaay overkill),
I'm going the disc brake mounted on the yoke route. I need to machine a hub to move the disc rearward to clear the tranny mount. Tradeoff is time vs $$ as always.
well after a bit of investigating on install and price of the different options i have decided to just put in a dana 70 rear axle with a 354 gear in it ,i have got one out of a dodge motorhome that has the 5 on 8 wheel bolt pattern this seems to be the easier way to go appreciate all the input from this group thanks
That should give you 56+ m/h. Should be fine since there isn't an awful lot of frontal area resistance (only about 64 sq. ft.) and you won't be carrying heavy loads.
