I know the smell of a clutch and the last couple days I have been able to smell that when I take off. Is this somthing I have just been missing or is this a sign of impending DOOM!!!! Anyway thought I would ask. I really don't remember smelling this at all over the last couple years, could it be time for an adjustment or somthing?
More than likely your clutch is beginning to die. The stock clutch in the 6 speed was not a real dependable unit anyway. With the additional hp from your mods you are more than likely overpowering the clutch. Here is an easy test, take a drive and get into 3rd gear, let the motor chug until it feels like you need to downshift to 2nd, then floor the accelerator while watching your tach and speedo. If your rpms jump without a response from the truck you will smell you clutch again and it needs replacing. Let me know if I can help.
Thanks I will try that tomorrow...way too tired right now...LONG day. Building a giant deck for a customer and the details keep changing. Dang rich people have more money than sense. I will try that tho and let ya know what happens
OK the clutch does not slip ..yet. I imagine it will in the next couple months. When it starts to slip can it be adjusted? The big truck I used to drive was able to be adjusted when it slipped to a point then it would have to be changed eventually. Then when it comes time to change it any suggestions? Any after market clutches that are way better?
MrFeexit, look into a LUK brand clutch. Once a light duty clutch starts to burn you are on borrowed time. A big truck clutch is a different breed. BTW I know your neck of the woods VERY well. I cought my first trout in the little Plover River many years ago. GO POINTERS!
