power loss

After work tonite I started my 2001 7.3 Excursion with 40000 miles on the odometer and pulled into traffic. A truck signalling a turn didn't turn so I had to floor it. The truck immediately lost power (pushed accelerator and nothing happened) but the motor continued to run. Luckily no accident occurred but it was and un-nerving experience. I pulled over, turned off the motor and restarted. No problem after that. Would the cam sensor do such a thing? Bad fuel? Can a diesel get too much fuel and be flooded before its up to operating temp? Electronic gas pedal going bad? Anyone have any thoughts on this? Thanks XDriver.

Have you checked or changed your fuel filter? I change it every 10K miles and it is usually dirty. I know from past diesel trucks it can affect performance and mileage. Your owner's manual has instructions on how to change it.
