1998 ford explorer 4.0 sohc
I have a 1998 ford explorer 4.0 sohc it won't start turns over but sprays fuel into the air filter I'm at a lose I have never seen this any ideas on what to look for would b appreciated

Welcome to FTE.
My wild guess is you have slipped timing chains and the valves are open at the wrong time, or bent, allowing compression stroke gases to blow back through the intake.
If this is the case:
--scrap vehicle, or:
--pull engine, set aside, find another running 4.0 SOHC out of almost anything including Mustangs, and transfer your intake, wiring, exhaust etc to it, install that and toss the carcass.
--if you like to suffer, rebuild your engine.
Have you done a compression test?
