Hey all
I have a 1989 f150 custom 300, 2wd with a clean body and interior that I'd like to convert to 4x4.
I know the easiest way to do this is finding another f150 and I plan on doing so but I do have a 94 f250 ttb 4x4. Before I go on my way finding a donor f150 is it possible to use my existing f250 without using the front leafs? Or are all the mounts different and not worth the effort?
Because of the leaf springs, the 250 doesn't have radius arms, so you'd need them from a 150. Not sure if they would mate up to the 250 TTBs. How about using the 250 stuff, springs and all?
The problem I have with using the 250 springs is they're already tired from carrying a 7.3 plus I'd end up spending even more time fabricating mounts for leaf sprigs on the f150. So no use in trying to fit f250 running gear in the f150 without lots of fabrication time is the consensus?
LOL about the bumper. It was on the truck 3 yrs ago when I bought it. I've looked high and low for one like it. I've only seen 1 other looking numerous times on google. I love the fog lights and really want to do a winch, I have 2 brand new Mile Marker 10500 lb winches, but I cant bring myself to cut that bumper up until I find another like it. This is the truck the day I bought it for 1700.00.
My plan changed- I am looking into eventually buying the 4wd frame & running gear, and transferring my engine, trans, body, etc over to the frame after I clean and restore it... Only way I can afford one is the rock soup method...
I DO have an IFS axle on hand already, but just haven't had the motivation to install it yet- and I understand the 2wd frame is NOT as structurally strong as the 4wd frame. Or am I incorrect in this?
For a 1/2 ton there is no difference in the frames, but the easiest way to do this swap would be to transfer your body onto a complete 4wd rolling chassis. Remember not only do you need the axles but a 4wd trans + t-case and the driveshafts.

No difference between the frames on the half ton? Might just go after the transfer case then...
Although I do like the swapping over idea, but if the frame is the same, I can do it quicker...
