txt msg with 2011 sync

I have a 2011 F459 KR with sync. I just did the factory software update and it did help with doing txt msg on the radio. If not moving I can read an incoming text msg on the radio, or listen to it over the speakers (If moving I can only listen to the msg). What I cant do is reply to the msg with speech to text, only the pre determined replies that are on the radio.
What I am wondering is if this is a phone related? Is anyone able to do speech to text replies with their phone? I am using about a 2 year old Samsung S6.

I have a 2015 and that's also the way mine works. I cannot add a custom text message reply.

I have a 2012 and have to use siri to send or read a text message through the sync system. Iphone 6

I can only listen to the message through Sync. I can't reply by voice. Android.

When a text message pops up is there a shortcut on the steering wheel to select "Listen"?
