Im working on a 1997 OBS F350, 96k miles, and I just got the Autoenginuity system to check a transmission problem I've been having. I set the interface to J1850 PWM, and Initilaization to non-OBDII. It checks DTCs (no codes found) and did the Engine off test and it came up fine, but every time I do the engine running, it gets to the part where I can feel the transmission shifting, and then the computer says "test failed, unknown error occurred" and it starts revving out of control. I have to turn the truck off to get it to stop. are there any other settings I need to change to get it to work right, or is there something wrong with the truck? I am not familiar with this thing and did everything by the book, but I'm a little lost now...
Not yet, but I will. I needed to get under it and change the MLPS, because I knew for a fact it was bad. But there's a still a shifting issue going on. No codes, but the needle wiggles around a little, and it shifts erratically . I swapped the VSS already, and chased the wires and they were all good. I think (and I've been told most likely) it's the PSOM, but I wanted to check before I start pulling that apart.
I mostly just just wanted to make sure I didn't need to activate Fastmode or Heartbeat before I tried running it or something. I picked it up this morning and I've been fiddling around with it.
Are you sure it's the part where it checks transmisions gears? I don't remember it doing that. Mine did that when it got to the ebpv valve test and said the same thing. My tube was plugged. The engine would lug and it wouldn't seethe pressure change from the ebpv sensor and the test would fail. What's you're ebp at idle
Hmmm, I have and AE and was not aware that it would do these tests. My engine is killed when I try. I'll reread your settings and try again. This thing as far smarter than me...
I don't know what normal is. I have a lot of spare parts lying around, including a spare EBP tube and sensor. If that's a bad number, I can swap it out and see what happens.
The guy from AE told me on the second part of the test, it increases rpm to test a few sensors. He was concerned I may have had an aftermarket pcm or a chip, and voltage, but I was showing 14.03 volts and the truck is stock.
And I'll definitely agree with you there. This machine is wayyyyy smarter than I am.
