While messing around with my new truck tonight I saw that Sync can interface with apps on my Android phone. What apps are those? I have Android Auto already.

Can you confirm that Android Auto works with these new MY trucks? Ford still hasn't released an update for my 2016 F-150. Also do you have to have the cable plugged in to use AA or bluetooth?
I'm not sure Android Auto actually worked. When I told Sync to find apps on my phone it said there weren't any. I was not using the cable but I'll try that next. I am pretty sure Sirius traffic is working, FWIW.
Any idea how I initiate a text message through voice commands using Sync? I tried a couple times and it didn't understand the request.
As my interaction with the sync by Bluetooth Spotify work as a application (I'm guessing same as Pandora)
and recently try Android auto and works, the first couple time I used got disconnected but I tried and different USB cable and never disconnected again, and no more black screen because of it
Actually I like it, map/GPS are more real time than truck navigation and the apps that I have on phone and I can access is Spotify, Google music and TuneIn

I would think that the phone needs to be plugged into the USB ports. I have an iPhone and that is how I access Apple Car Play. Android Auto was developed to compete with Car Play, they should work similarly.

Same here on the text messaging mine said could not find a phone number for the person that sent the text. But at the start of it said "new text message from Christine" that's my wife and her number shows up on the screen?

Android Auto does work. It requires that your phone be attached by USB.
Has anyone used or tried "Waze" instead of google maps or the ford navigation through the USB?
I haven't, but I am very interested in if other navigation apps will work. I am hoping that someone will develop a quality navigation app with RV routing.
No waze will not work that way yet, they said a year ago that they are "working" on it. I am not holding my breath since it competes with google maps and is owned by Google.
Android Auto does work but i dont like the fact it blocks out the standard uses not involved with android auto. When the app is open you can only use its features, unless i just havent found a way to switch between them yet.
Absolutely correct, you can use Google maps on the screen, works great to me
Thanks, my sister didn't get NAV, but does have sync 3.. she was going to pony up $1300 for a nav headunit/CPU.. I guess I will have to go sit in her truck and figure it out..
