So I struck out with Ford and the board about the O-rings in the fuel line fittings that attach to the sender unit in the tank. Ford says no replaceable O-rings, and NAPA lists rings but can't get them.
Bronco Graveyard has replacement fittings, but 3 styles and 2 sizes. And I don't remember what the fittings were. We got both off with a spring garter tool, but I'm not so sure that's what the fitting is. And I didn't
check size. I'm pretty sure the leaking fitting is the return line.
I prefer to not have to partially drop the tank, cut off the offending fitting, figure out what it is and size, order, and put the truck together a week later.
Does anyone know what the size and style the tank-end fitting on the fuel line, that connects to the sender? Hair-pin, duckbill, or garter, and size? Likely 5/16 or 3/8.
Supply is 3/8", return is 5/16". As for type, it's the type that uses this type of quick disconnect tool. Not sure what that corresponds to in the jargon on Jeff's site.
pick the old orings out, size them and replace with new viton orings. I pulled one for the short lines from up by the driver side front wheel and just replaced with fuel line and hose clamps. I may try to replace the orings and put the quick connect line back in some day. Probably switch to efuel before that anyways.
The problems is that there are 3 styles of connectors, and I forgot what the ones on the sender looked like and did not take pictures. One style, garter spring, has a "snout" with external O-rings that fit inside the , and the literature I've seen suggests these are on the engine. Both me and the buddy who helped me don't remember a "snout" or visible O-rings on the connector to the tank sender. The other two styles have internal O-rings deep inside the connector. Bronco Graveyard lists splice-in replacement connectors for about $20 shipped... and than looks better than going on a fishing expedition deep inside a tiny dark hole.
So I now know it's probably a 3/8 size... still uncclear what style. Looks like I wait until I lower the tank and get the fitting off. And maybe this time I won't be too confident (stupid?) to take pictures.
