I have owned several sets of Toyo OC MTs over the years on several trucks, 35s, 37s, and 38s. great tires in all conditions from SE country fishin hole roads, to SoCal desert/mtns for King of the Hammers pit crewin. Heck, even on winding Big Bear Mtn snow covered roads. I have waiting to go 37" Toyo OC RTs this time. I do more asphalt cowboy stuff now than I used to. So my vote is TOYO if you didn't catch that...
I work with several others in a shipping/delivery business that requires us to pull 14K to 24K trailers 100% of the time. We go off road and/or drive lots of gravel (mud when raining) and like the USPS..we go no matter the weather. This is all open water / summer time....no winter. These trucks sit all winter. We have a 6 trucks or more that run 20K to 30K a season ....all F350 SRW or F450 Pickups. 15 years ago our goto tire that gave us the extra traction and stood up to the HP/towing heavy was a Toyo M55. This is still a good tire. We then tried the first Nitto Trail Grappler over 8 years ago and we got only 10 to 20% more tire life but the traction was crazy good. Even when down to 6/32 this tire still worked. The tire company we work with was a big Toyo dealer and gave us a set of Toyo MT to try free. At the time we typically were getting 25 - 35K out of the M55 and Nitto TG. I ran the Toyo MT and they lasted exactly 19K before all four were under 4/32. We have since used Nitto TG the last 6-8 years exclusively. I have had a 11, 14 and now a 17 F350 SRW trucks. Each one gets a new set of Nittos every spring. I get 28 - 32K out of each set. I was provided another set of Toyo MT 2 years ago. These last 25K but the traction after 50% of the tread was gone was not as good as the Nittos IMHO. The Toyo MT is a good tire. But in our 30 sets of tire experience, the Nittos are better. The other thing is I have not had a flat to deal with in three trucks or almost 300K miles.
Now this is not the same class as these SD, but I have a 12 Wrangler JK that I put the same 18" Nitto TG on as we put on our SD. I have 72K miles on them and they have 60% tread life yet.
I can't speak for any other Nitto then Trail Grappers....but if you want a tough tire that wears well (we rotate every 5K, Air to the max all around as we tow heavy and every mile) and a tire that will dig you out of trouble spots with a heavy trailer....we have had great luck Nitto Trail Grappers.
i am not interested in the Toyo MT. i have heard they have poor snow traction and the new compound wears out very fast. I was interested in the Toyo RT, but they don’t make the size I want. Also, my tire guy has said most all the people he has talked to who bought the tire, have said it does poorly in the snow.
I have had Nitto Trail Grapplers on a a previous truck, they were a good tire and did well in the snow.
I have had 3 sets of Toyo AT2 on 2 trucks and my wife’s old sequoia. The were decent tires, but IMO wore out very, very fast.
I like Toyo tires and I have a very good relationship with the local Toyo dealer. They don’t carry Nittos, but can get them (probably at a higher price).
I think I am going to try something different and go with the Ridge Grapplers. I have read mostly positive reviews, and great snow reviews on them.

let us know ... I live in upper wi up , see 300 inches of snow plus annually . youre misinformed on the toyos , that I can say for sure . although interested to hear youre nittos work out .. by the way if really worried about snow, a narrow tall ,, aggressive tire will suit you best. not the prettiest though .. good luck . drive safe

how am i misinformed about the toyos??
i have had 3 sets of at2, they do ok in he snow and IMO wear out very quickly.
i have several friends who have the MT and say they suck in the snow.
it is pretty well known that the MT rubber compound has changed and they wear out much faster then they used to

They use a new compound on booth of them now neither last as long anymore but the G2 I put on wife Nissan I kinda of like they have about 8000 thousand miles and show no signs of wear but it is only a half ton

Is there proof of this (toyo and nitto are same)
Sorry just looked it up your right
IMHO.....the Nitto Trail Grappler (TG) are a harder rubber then the Toyo MT. And the Toyo MT of today is a harder rubber thenot 10 years ago.....based on running them on our work trucks towing hard.
Like I used to do with the M55 that I ran and pulled all winter, I sipped the center 2/3rds of the tire face on the Nitto TG. This makes for an amazing winter tire. Open lugs to dig down to traction....sipes to grab on compacted snow and ice.
Is better then a dedicated winter tire on black ice .....NO. But is it better then a dedicated winter tire in deep snow....no question.

hm I have three trucks with mts on them in the stable right now , 13 sd is going on thirty k . half tread left . tuned and deleted . 250 Spartan tow tune .. my 18 year old running this truck daily . I'm guessing pretty hard . if I can get 50 k or better . hell that's a good tire .. these tires are 2 years old roughly .. what is considererd good life on an aggressive mud tire ..do they belong in same sentence . I guess I know going in that I'm not getting 70 k out of mt tire .. what tires are youre friends running that are far better , please let me know , as I myself buy a lot of tires .. if something better I'm open minded .. love learning still at 52 years young my friend ..
I enjoyed my Nitto Terra Grapplers G2's on my F150. I had over 20k miles on them and they showed very little wear, almost none. They did great in the snow, and weren't too noisy. Another popular tire around here are the Coopers ATs.

Jerry, I know this is an old thread, or semi old, I do a lot of construction for water wells and construction sites, I also have a farm but put a lot of miles on my truck traveling, do you have any trucks that don't pull but have the TG's on them? I don't pull all of the time but need the traction, and trying to decide which way to go and get some mileage out of them as well . Thanks
