(1994 f250 7.3 idi na 4x4)So ive read and seen that if your replacing your fuel lift pump from mechanical to electrical to go with mr. Gasket but i wanna know which one to go with and part # for it. Also a write up on how to replace it becaus i guess its plug and play but i know its mechanical to electrical so i didn't know if there is any other steps.
agreed the mr gasket pumps are not designed for diesel and will die within a year. if you want to go electric go with a facet duralift pump, either the 40285 or the 40223.
the 40285 is 4-7 psi which is equal to the stock mechanical pump, but it is a bit low for larger injector pumps.
the 40223 is 9-11 psi and much better suited for performance engines. the 40223 will work with stock engines too, but i would add a pressure regulator set at 7-8 psi because the higher fuel pressure will change the timing in the pump.
The diesel Mr Gasket pump can get you by, I installed one with a custom filter setup and it definitely improved starting times. But within the 90 day warranty period I'm switching to a regulator return system with a 7.3 powerstroke fuel pump to maintain factory reliability with performance flow capability.
+1 on the Facet Duralift. I've had the 4-7 psi on my truck for 1.5 yrs and almost 50,000 miles and its never failed it just keeps on running. I will add though if you do get one I would go with the 9-11 psi with a regulator as tjc stated. With my injection pump turned up 2 flats the Duralift seems to just keep up. A little more pressure I think would help on the top end keep the fuel pressure up.
You shouldn't need a regulator for either Duralift pump. Everyone who monitors their output with a gauge finds that they put out below advertised pressure. That's the reason I decided not to choose a Duralift pump given my future performance goals.

i love my Facet. One of the best upgrades I've done to the truck just takes a few hours out of your day if you take your time.
Tjc, would you say it's not a bad idea to keep a SPARE mr gasket in the toolbox in case you're left stranded? I know they're junk but I would think in an emergency situation would you recommend possibly keeping one just for insurance?
but I would also agree with not making it your main Fuel pump. We sell them at O'Reilly auto parts and the black one says for carb engines only and the green for diesel. I haven't sold a green one EVER. That should tell you something right there.
Hey, I work at O'Reilly's too! I thought about carrying a spare Mr gasket but then you are dangerously close to being able to buy a Duralift pump that you know will last... Just not worth it for the cheap pumps.

Nice!! And like tjc said these last a long time. I've heard of 10-13 years but 20+....MY GOODNESS.
Only reason I was asking is because I am a believer in whatever can go wrong will go wrong. But i figure if you're confident with your wiring you'll be ok.
