56 F350 wrecker and 54 demo OHV Car
At a PA Soccer Coaches Assoc function in Harrisburg to day I was talking to a soccer coaching buddy about my Ford trucks. I showed him pictures of my two trucks. He tells me his father owned a garage in Lebanon County, which I knew. He said his brothers took it over when the father died. But this summer they closed and had an auction.
We talked about flatheads and how neat they sounded and then talked about overhead valve V8 engines which both my trucks have. He said there was a Ford dealer in Lebanon that had a new 54 car with one of those holes in the hood with a plexiglass panel in it so shoppers could see the new Yblock in the showroom with out having to lift the hood, like the one on the cover of Eikman's Yblock book. The dealer sold the display model and put a new hood on it.
My Buddy's brother bought the hood and put it on his new Ford. It even had lights in it to light up the engine compartment. He was going down the road one day about 90 and the rush of air blew out the plexiglass and shattered it in pieces! I told him an intact hood like that would be worth a ton of money today.
He said they had a 56 F350 wrecker that hadn't run for three years. They got it running and it sold for $8000. I told him that is aboutt right. Two guys got in a bidding war for it. Meanwhile a newer wrecker with a Cummins engine and a new boom went for $1500.
Sorry, no pics!
