I was reading through some threads and got confused. In order to swap a zf 5spd into my 87 that has the four speed, will I need a new flywheel or clutch or both? The zf came out of an 88 with the 7.3. Thanks for any clarification.
Also are there any other parts I should steal from the 88?
I'll be using my existing transfer case if that matters.

not 100% sure about the clutch and flywheel question but the only other thing i can think of that you will need is the drive shaft and the shifter itself everything else should work fine.
I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in but I belive the trans crossmember has to be moved back and you'll need to use a ******* u joint with the other drive shafts. A ******* u joint has two different sizes,
the trans input shaft on the zf5 is bigger as well, there's a certain clutch disc you can buy and pressure plate so you don't have to change flywheels, of course you can buy a flywheel/clutch combo kit for a 88-93 as well
If your old/current 4 speed is in good shape I may be interested in it, pm me with you're location and desired price
