Air Horn System

I am in last minute negotiation with my dealer. I would like the dealership to add air horns deserving of my CC SWD LWB Platinum.

Kleinn advertises "ONBOARD AIR & TRAIN HORN SYSTEM,100% Bolt On Kit Customized To Fit Ford F250 & F350". But doesn't show details.
Kleinn hasn't return my phone call yet.

JoeLariat posted his customized set up. However, I'm looking for something my dealer can install without making brackets, etc..

Does anyone have suggestions on Kleinn or other manufacturers for an easily installed, concealed air horn system?

By the way, thanks for all the useful information everyone has contributed on this forum.

Why do you need air horns on a truck?

I don't "need" air horns. My Lincoln Navigator L is a nice vehicle, but it's horn is whimpy. I don't use the horn often, but when I do, I want others to have no doubt as to the source.

Some of this is coming from my boat experience. On the water we communicate with our horns. Many of these signals are spelled out by the Coast Guard, in their "rules of the road". On the water, as well as on the road, in traffic, at night getting a deer to go the other direction, they can be handy.

So, if I signal while pulling a boat and trailer weighing 20K, I don't want it sounding like VW bug.

In our nanny State of Ohio it may be restricted. Most certainly, there are times and places it would be outlawed.

I'm not sure if the dealer will install or not. It's something I'd like done professionally. My preferred dealer needs to sweeten the pot a little. So, I am using it as one of my bargaining chips.

No need to explain why you need air horns. People have a range of opinions about such things. Viair has this little unit available. It looks small-ish but is self-contained and would be pretty easy to install.

https://www.amazon.com/VIAIR-150-PSI...ard+air+system

You would still need to choose the actual horns and mount them. Lots of options there for searching.

Thanks Epic! That's on the order of what I'm looking for. And, it doesn't hurt having a small tank and compressor available on the road, or in the woods.

I was hoping that something on the order of a "plug and play" was available? This would eliminate the dealer from having to engineer brackets, etc..

Whether or not running air horns the on board air is truly handy for anyone who plays in the woods or messes about with trailers or anything with pneumatic tires. That little guy should handle any air requirements. I have relied on a small unit for years but want one permanently mounted. Since the work of mounting is the battle a few more bucks for a bigger unit seems reasonable. I like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000YC42RG...I14QO4TOPL9KD2
and will be ordering it soon. I found space on the right side outboard where it can be mounted high and out of the majority of tire splash between the box and the fender. A little work to build a platform to support it and then a little more air for tires etc.

I'm toying with a dual compressor setup for this truck. Onboard air was one of those unexpectedly awesome mods on my 2011. I used the air all the time and not just for tires. I did find that airing back up with a single compressor took too much time so dual compressors will cut that time in half. The air horns have an occasionally legitimate function but mostly they were for the kids.

I mounted the Viair compressor outside the frame rail on the passenger side and it never failed. It was exposed to anything the tires gave it and it just ran and ran.

That's the system I had on my 2014 for on-board air. It worked great, and I love the constant duty rating of the compressor. I'm still figuring out where/how I want to mount an OBA system on this truck. I hate to go in the bed, but it may be the best option for me without having to do significant fab for mounting brackets.

I call Kleinn, again. They are developing a "vehicle specific air horn system" for the 2017 Super Duties.

The more I research this, the more excited I am about getting the compressed air, and less excited about the horns.

Thanks for the info.

A few years ago i had dual air horns mounted under the hood of my old chevy. I used an air brake tank that i mounted in the bed against the cab. I would fill it up to about 100 psi and it was good for about 15 blows before i would have to refill it. Got the horns for around $40 at a local diesel repair shop. Some they had laying around on their shelf for years. Very loud and deep sounding . Think they were around 24" long. They gave me the tank. So i had around $60 bucks in the whole setup by the time i bought hoses and stuff.

My '08 F350 had a 1950s Pennsylvania rail car horn with twin viair 480s feeding a 10 gal tank. I had the air fitting at rear bumper and 50ft coil hose. The compressed were mounted in the c channel frame and the tank in spare tire well. I couldn't fit a spare anyways, as I was runnin 38s. This setup was under there since 2009, exposed to desert, mtns, trips to river, backwoods fishing hole adventures, never had a problem.
