steering colulm from 95 F250 into 93 F350?

Hello everyone!

I am currently driving my 93 F350 (2wd, 351, 5 speed, if it matters) and while it has been treating me well, the lack of tilt and cruise control has been a bit bothersome. I will be parting out a 95 F250 (4x4, 351, 5 speed) that does have tilt and cruise control, while I am sure the columns are dimensionally the same and will physically swap in, will the wiring all match up so that I can use it in my 93 F350? I eventually would like to swap the entire cruise control setup into the truck, so I don't want ot make the swap to get the tilt now, and then make the swap again later to get functioning cruise control.

i think you will find a difference in column length between 2wd and 4x4

Really, I had never heard of that before. I wonder why it would be different, the steering box is mounted in the same spot on the frame, sand the dash is identical. I know that in the 87-91 series the columns were interchangeable between 2wd/ 4x4.

can anyone else verify or deny this? also, anyone have a clue about the wiring matching up??

The upper part of the column will be the same.....its the lower shaft that is different. Use the tilt column and your lower shaft.

When you say lower shaft, are you referring to the shafts that bolts on just outside of the firewall, and bolts right to the steering box? Or do you mean an internal lower shaft inside the column?

I've pulled apart a lot of trucks and I've never seen this. The box is the same. The steering shaft is the same. The column is the same the best I can tell.

I put a 4x4 column from a 92 F150 in my 95 F250 2wd without issue-the upper part only.

If you look under the dash, the actual column ends at the ujoint that you see under the dash. If you take 1 bolt out of the yoke attached to the column, from there back to the steering wheel should be the same on all OBS trucks..........from that yoke to the steering gear box, MAY be different.......but don't quote me on that because I have never compared any.

Airbags throw a small wrench into that but all the stuff swaps over.

yeah, the airbag thing would totally be avoided by using the F250 colulm. I do have several tilt/cruise columns from automatic F150s, but I decided not to even bother with them due to the automatic stalk and the airbag wheel.

on the subject of airbags...

Is there a decent way to remove an airbag from an F150 steering wheel, and make it look stock?

The 92-96 non airbag wheel and sliding contacts bolt in place of the airbag wheel and clock spring. Google can tell you this.

Yes, I also found that out, what I am asking is if there is a way to remove the airbag from the F150 wheel and still keep the wheel looking stock?

just swap the non airbag wheel onto the air bag column. or put the airbag wheel on and leave it unplugged.

so, im dragging this thread back out.

im currently in the process of parting out some of my parts trucks, and tonight, i pulled the column from a 1995 F150, with tilt and cruise, and an automatic.

Is there a way to take this column and using some parts from my F350 column, convert it to a tilt/ manual column? or am i better off waiting until i part out the one from my other truck that is a manual?
