Duraspark distributor cap too large...conversions?

Howdy fellas, my distributor cap on my 460 is riding against my thermostat housing. I installed an over priced slimmed down neck, but I still don't like it pushing on the cap. It's such Tight fit...I feel like there oughta be a smaller cap conversion out there. Anyone dealt with this issue?

You could get an aftermarket distributor or a different thermostat housing. There is a housing made that has the side sloped off that clears everything quite well, It was used on later 460's I think. If the housing you have is thick enough you might file or grind some clearance that way too

Correct, use a thermostat housing from an '83-newer truck 460. Napa, Oreillys and others list them for around $20. This is a picture of what the chamfer looks like to clear the large cap:

That's the ticket, I don't know why I didn't find that housing when I was shopping. I had this motor in a boat...so I had a block off plate and never had a housing. Thanks guy's.

Hi John, I'm running it like you see it. It's fine but would look into that Napa housing with the relief in it.

Check the applications for early to mid '80s Ford E250 or E350 vans that have the 460. Dorman 9021048 might be the ticket.
