Welcome to FTE!
I am moving your post over to the Ranger forum, where you will probably be able to get better answers. Please turn your e-mail on so we can inform you personally of any changes.
I have the same year Ranger. When you ran out of gas, you could have blown the fuel pump in the fuel tank. Did you hear it start when you turned the key on?
yes the pump runs when the key is turned on... i also removed the pump and jumppered it the check the operation. i have it setting in the tank now on the floor and can here the pump engage when the key is on and the truck is trying to start
What a mess. I feel your pain. I bought a computer to read codes along with both Ford shop manuals for my Ranger. Good investment to keep the old truck running.
Good luck.
Pull of the fuel filter first and see if the pump is working correctly....it should start pumping fuel out when you turn the key..if it doesnt you know its the pump.....if it does..blow out the fuel filter with an air hose and make sure its clean. Then blow out the line going to the manifold to check for obstructions. Even if the pressure looks ok there could be an obstruction in there still
