about a week and a half ago the lock and tumbler broke on my 86 bronco, so I thought. come to find out it was the accuator that broke. I didnt feel like takin the tilt wheel apart at the time so i put the steering wheel back togetherand manually push the rod that connects to the starter switch. Last friday my(intearnal regulater) altenater cought on fire(100+heat index that day), didnt blow the fuse link but burnt the wires in two bout 2 inches in front of it. So I bought new connectors and rewired it, replacing the fuse link with a blade fuse(30 amp).It run fine all weekend, weather was in the mid to upper 80s.Now it seams when it is real hot outside i keep blowin fuses.Sometimes the turn signal kills the motor, somtimes the brakes, reverse lights, turning on the radio or air. But when the weather is cool it runs fine. Any help would be greatly appretiated.
Did you replace the alt.? What fusses are you blowing?
Did I read right? You replaced the fusible link off the alt. with a 30amp fuse. The fusible link can take about 150amps. So with a 100 amp alt. Air cond. on running a power window with headlights, thats more than 30 amps coming out of that alt.
If your alt. flamed up, I will bet it has 2 large plugs and no output stud. This would be a 2G you should probly, upgrade to a 3G. Much better desighn and doesent put 80 amps through a plastic plug with two cheap splade terminals.
I did not realize the fuselink carried that many amps. not sure on the alt type, pulled it of a 91 F-250 i have, will loook into it. thank you for the info.
