Well. . . I think its time for injectors. . . about 45 degrees out and it was puffing blueish white smoke for about 30 seconds. . . Ill get a video of it later. But, I would like to get them changed out before they leave me stranded. I could spend about 1-3k on new ones. Then I figure I would rebuild my old ones and sell those. I really havent researched theses much so any input as far as what I should get is appreciated!
Tugly has a link to good read about new vs reman in his signature.
I personally am going to be shimming my injectors (if they ever get here... Dern ice storms out west) to help hold off the inevitable. If you haven't had a true failure yet, it may be something to consider.
Been busy with dying Friends and a family member... So been gone for a few weeks.
Just a note here.... regarding "New" Injectors for the 7.3L
I was reading a trade Magazine I still get about a month ago, Apparently, Motorcraft is, or will shortly stop manufacturing NEW Injectors for the 7.3L and 6.0L. I meant to post this but it fell by the wayside...
.........Alliant, says they have to keep up with "modern demands" and it is no longer profitable. .......
They [Alliant] will however continue "remanufacturing" of both. New Injectors from Motorcraft will have "-AA" in the Part# until exhausted (can't recall if this was for 6.0L or both).
In the same article, there is at least one manufacturer who will take up manufacturing the 6.0L injector new. They claim to use the same guidelines used by Alliant [Alliant provided their specification to the Company (for a fee I presume)] .
Its not like we didn't see this coming for the American Market. Foreign supplies will not be affected by the change. Trade Issue? Regulation? Didn't say.
But, as of the writing, there is no foreseeable plans for the 7.3L They will "monitor demand before committing to the 7.3L". This they said will take a couple years of study.
If my adorable, loving, sweet, caring, wife has not reorganized and filed it in the trash, I will see if I can find it and post the particulars later this week.

Why is it that they have to keep all of their stuff and throw ours in the trash? If they really cared they would file ours neatly so it could be found just like they do their own...Now, back to business. What about IH and the AC's?

Mine use to smoke a lot. Then my IPR failed, I had it replaced and the smoke issues cleared up (for the most part).

Well crap... I guess I may end up getting re-manufactured injectors if I cannot get a deal in before the new ones run out. I know a lot of people have good luck with remanned, but I was willing to pay for new and have the peace of mind.
I will have to hit up PIS and see if they have a course of action for this yet. I more than likely would have the time and ability to send in my injectors for rebuild/modification to 160/80 instead of receiving an entirely different set of injectors.

Aren't you the guy pushing reliability and longevity..
Those injectors are about more than just that
Kyle
Yes, I am one of the guys pushing for reliability and longevity. I am eye balling the 160/80 injectors with a tune that makes them similar to how stock injectors handle except when I am climbing a long grade with my 5th wheel in tow I want a bit more power rolled on and lower EGT's. Just because I am buying injectors that are capable of rolling coal and burning up tires does not mean that is the only reason for those injectors.
I plan to drive the truck as it is driven now which is with respect. When I call upon more fuel to climb that grade in Colorado, I want the EGT's to stay below 1000 degrees and I think the 160/80 injectors are a step in the right direction.
If/when I ever decide to sell this truck (probably never happen) I will be able to speak to each modification I have done to it. I will be able to explain why I chose this instead of that in order to make it perform better or last longer. I will not be stumbling over my words to find a better answer than "well, because it sounds good" or "because the chicks dig it...".
A 160/80 injector tuned properly can perform just like a stock injector but perform much better when fuel is being added in order to cross the continental divide...
Please keep us posted on PIS's stand point on this..

Quote from David at PIS below. Just received it this morning.
I just called my rep that I purchase all of my new injectors through and he tells me that he knows nothing about Alliant stopping production.
That being said, we specialize in Reman 7.3 injectors, we own tons of core sets that we can remanufacture for you, or we can rebuild your set specifically from your truck. Converting them from an AD to a 160/80 is no problem at all.
Please shoot me an email or give me a call when the time is right and we will do our best to get you set up.

Nope but you'll be able to include it in the list.
Starting to lean towards the GP system. I just did the GPR with a riffraff one so I dont think thats the issue but I will test it anyways. I already have glow plugs was gonna wait to put them in and see if I could time it with injectors. But if I dont need to spend money on injectors and this will solve it that works. Here is a video of it trying to start

If anyone is interested I talked with David at PIS yesterday regarding some new injectors for my truck. He said that the rumor of Alliant discontinuing their new injector production for our trucks has been around for about 5 years (that he knows of) but there has been no official word that it is going to actually happen or when.
