I AM CURRENTLY REBUILDING MY 351W. MY BILL AT THE MACHINE SHOP WAS 1400$!!!! DOES THIS SOUND A LITTLE OUTRAGOUS. I HAD IT BOILED,BORED AND CAM BEARINGS INSTALLED. I ALSO ORDERED THE PERFORMER RPM INTAKE, THE CLEVITE ROD AND MAINS, CLEVITE CAM, DOUBLE ROLLER TIMING, GASKET SET, SPEED PRO PISTONS, ARP ROD BOLTS, AND HIGH VOLUME OIL PUMP. I HAVN'T PAID HIM YET... OPINIONS??????THANKS
i just had my windsor boiled, bored and balanced and bought rering kit and dropped 500...had the intake but my double roller and hi vol oil pump is only 70 bucks.... sounds stiff to me!!!

Answer to your question; no, you got a pretty decent deal. The parts you ordered add up. I paid $1400 for machine work and overhaul part alone for a 292 Y-block re-machine.
If you're thinking that a short-block from the national auto parts chain store would have been cheaper, it's not a fair comparison. Their engines don't get the kind of careful machining that a decent machinist can give you.
Speaking of which, did you ask around to find out if your machinist is a good one?
I had a Ch@vy 400 small block machined by a shop and I'll never take another job to that shop. But my current machinist is someone who I just drop the stuff off and call him later and pay the bill. Good work, done right, knows his business.
