I have a swb 71 ford f-100 w/ a stock 87 351w H.O. 4v in it. And at my school there is a guy that has a 72 Chevy truck w/ a completely stock 350 in it. This guy has challenged me to a race the day i turn 16 do u think i could smoke him or would it be close. I need some opinions before i make a fool of myself.
Should be fairly even. Start adding up positives and negatives. Are the trucks 2bbl or 4bbl? duals on both or not? LWB or SWB? If you go from a stop, who grips? You just never know man. Good luck though.
His "completely stock" motor is always suspect (ask any drag racer). Little things mean a lot, but razor sharp tuning and lightning reflexes will put a dog at the head of the pack. Does he run a higher ratio rear end? If so, and you have "highway" gear next to his "towing" gear, he'll jump you and dust you in the 1/8, all other things being equal. Keep it safe and short, no 100 MPH bs, we want you back here again.
Be careful,
You don't want to lose you license as soon as you get it do you?
Don't race on the street, go to a track.
It might cost a couple of bucks, but it is a controlled environment, and you don't have to worry about a little kid or something running out in front of you. Use your head
Since your motor has 210hp and 315tq stock I think you stand a good chance. But there are a couple of factors as mentioned above like gear ratio. Hell I wouldn't care just put the pedal down when the time comes and make us proud.
Think about what you are doing! I don't have anything against racing provided it is done in a safe environment.
DON'T STREET RACE!!!
You could lose your license
You could blow up your truck
You could crash your truck
You could kill yourself
You could kill someone else
You could do it around someone like me who gets really pissed off at street racers and will follow you till you stop, then beat the **** out of you.
Is it really worth taking all these risks just so you can say your POS Ford beat some POS Chevy?
Just use your head!
It all comes down to gear ratio. If the motors are even similar in output, then the lower gear wins every single time. Big tires will slow you way down too, keep that in mind. Whatever you do, let off the gas at 60 MPH, there's no sense in going any faster, even if you're losing.
by the way i have expeirience in racing i raced a couple 15 lap races at the local dirt track on saturday nights. 4 cylinder class is really dog eat dog.
'Bet your mom doesn't know about this right? I'd wait untill you got a bit of driving experiance. When you got a year or so under your belt, you will be able to feel the diffrence.
