towing legally
now i've been looking at 100 up to 350 but most of these old rigs have no tow rating and its near on impossible to find anything online as'well
i'm looking to be able to tow 2.5T will i be able to do this legally
thanks for your help guys
This would put most of them in the 2.5-3T range for towing a trailer with brakes. I believe Hayman Reese make a tow hitch for the older trucks that is rated a 2.8T, so that is probably your answer!
but it's still in the grey area but i think we get away with more than legal being an older bigger ute.(not say more legally just less likely to be looked as closely as it's in the 2 hard basket.)
it may be as low as 2.5 t on an f1 of this era but you'll be pretty safe with an f350 to be good for atleast 3.5 ton.
remember rails etc. Are actually thicker
but i was amazed how difficult it is to find this info e.g. ford can produce a rgvm which is your combined weight generally the limiting factor.
but they don't have it at hand easy.
My 86 F350 is rated to 4.5T but it also requires a light rigid license. it changes with the engine fitted, transmission fitted and final axle ratio as fitted..
Next thing I will be looking at is to get it rated below 4535 KG, there is an administrative change in VS6B for import vehicles to reduce the mass below 4500.
Cheers Steve
