I must be getting old!

This is in jest, so please no flaming...

There must be a new generation of truck buyers. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE all the tech these trucks have to offer. But some of the comments here have me shaking my head and laughing:

- I can't add background pics to my radio
- I have to hold my foot on the brake and wait a whole 2 secs for the engine to start.
- Why won't the mirrors auto-fold / unfold. I actually have to push a button?
- I wish the doors would unlock when I walk away, so I wouldn't have to push a button.
- Why can't I scroll through the FM stations with the button on my steering wheel...I have to reach ALL THE WAY over to the radio.
- Why isn't the seat heater control on the radio screen? The physical control is what 6" below the screen?
- Why don't we have USB ports in the back
- Why doesn't Ford have Wifi available?
- Why can't I remote start from my smartphone?
- My seats don't cool my **** enough.

And the list goes on and on and on....

These are trucks folks with SOME luxury car features. You are paying for the capability of hauling and towing what a Mercedes E-Class, BMW 7 series, Audi or Lexus cannot do.

I guess the good news is that no one is saying:

Why won't my truck tow more?

Again, this no stab at any one individual, just a collective "Wow, is this what truck owners are REALLY concerned about these days?"

While I understand what you are saying (and agree to an extent). When you spend $70-80k you are buying a luxury vehicle. There is nothing wrong with wanting features that other luxury vehicles have.

On the other hand my truck is AMAZING!!!

You are both correct.

Trucks, today, cost as much as some pretty decent luxury cars. Today, buyers expect much more than in years past....sometimes too much.

The great thing, though, is that you can still get a basic truck or a fully decked out high-tech truck.

My wife's Lincoln can be started and monitored from her phone...so whoever asked about that has a legitimate point (in my eyes, since FMC already has the technology in-house).

What OP said. The option is available for the modem to start your truck by phone, if that is what you want. But I don't think you can bumper pull a 22K trailer, none the less a fifth wheel with said Lincoln. At least ours won't.

I agree! Does anyone remember the options or "lack there of" these Trucks had 20 years ago?

Would you be so kind and provide more details... What modules, part numbers? Any docs. I have been wanting this. I am embarrassed because the original poster (who I agree with) is going to make fun of me...

Thanks

Mike

I agree with the OP as well. The higher end models are full of creature comforts and gadgets but I personally would not even put a Platinum in the category of "luxury". Of course, that term is subjective and I suppose in the truck-world it would fit, but its just not fair to compare trucks specifically built to tow and haul (regardless of trim level) to cars specifically built to cater to the passenger's comfort level.

Some of the features I've never had in any vehicle and right now I don't see the point. Such as Auto headlight dimming and rain-sensing wipers. I know when to dim the headlights and my eyes are pretty good at sensing rain. It's not like there is any effort involved in moving my hand to flip a switch that is conveniently located right beside the steering wheel. But, who knows? After I take delivery and get to experience these things first hand, I might be singing a different song...I'd like to think I try to keep an open mind.

Left and right buttons on the right hand side of the steering wheel go between your pre-sets. I use it daily.

I have it on mine and most of the time it wouldn't be a big deal to adjust the wipers myself. However, I had a time it was very beneficial in the Fusion I used to have. Got caught in an unexpected torrential downpour in the mountains. Both hands on the wheel, eyes scanning the very little bit of road I could see ahead for other cars and downed branches. No brain cycles available to think about adjusting the wiper speed so it was nice that they automatically came on and scaled up to full speed.

That is true, but the OP is referring to a post where someone wanted to be able to go through all stations, not just presets. I'm guessing the complaint "having to reach over to the tuning **** is dumb" is why the OP shakes their head on this one.

Ah-ha! This is exactly why I enjoy this forum...great info! Had no idea the speed adjusted in conjunction with how hard it was raining. Thought is was just an on/off feature. Thanks!

I know what you mean, loaded up our overhead camper and took it out for the weekend. The bed rails got scuffed up a bit, and the wife needed a little reminder that at the end of the day......it's a truck. And trucks looking pretty is secondary to function.

she then sent me to my room
