My alt went bad, I just changed it outt, and got a new batt. My batt guage is not up to where it was before the problem. is there something else I should check? I have a 2000 ranger with a standard trans and the 2.5, 4cy enging. pls advise
tks
Is the new alternator rated at the same Amp. as the previous one? It's ok if the guage isn't quite where it used to be...as long as it's somewhere in the "normal" range. It could just be that your new alternator isn't charging quite as rapidly.
Thanks for the info and the welcome. I found out thar I am not getting power from the new alt at all. Its just the power from the Batt. Is there anything else I can check or did I just get a bad alt?
Bring back the alternator you just bought and have them check it. If it's good, then you know you have a breakdown somewhere between the alternator and the battery.
Thanks for all the help. It was some freaky problem with the cig lighter. I use it and the other 12v plug at the same time and got a short that inturn led to the problem. It took 3 alts and 2 batt before I just started pulling plugs and testing wires. the fuse for the cig lighter wasn't blown but after I pulled it and tested it again I figured out that was the problem. CHECK THE LIGHTER FUSE before going throu what I did.
Thanks
